LADY IRWIN SCHOOL- THE SCHOOL BUILDINGS

The High School Building, still looks  the same as it did decades ago. The signage is gone though! The High School Building still looks the same as anyone in living memory can remember. The Middle School was housed in one of the Army Barracks (also constructed in the British times) on Canning Lane, located right across what was then known as 'Pataudi House'. The Middle school building has since been demolished. The school address always included the line: Canning Lane, Near Curzon Road! Canning Lane is now known as Madhav Rao Scindia Road. Curzon Road is Kasturba Gandhi Marg! The 'new' Middle School is now housed in a building adjacent to the school Gymnasium, which was once the heartbeat of the school. For years the School raised funds for construction of the Middle School Building through what was known as the 'P.T.Show'. MOUNTAINEER BHARATI BANERJEE OF LADY IRWIN SCHOOL

Ms. Bharati Banerjee, Faculty at the Lady Irwin School, New Delhi was a member of the Mountaineering Expedition Team of 1970 that successfully scaled the Hanuman Tibba Peak (5928 m - 19450 feet ) on October 5, 1970. The expedition was led by M.C. Usha. The other members were Sudha Talwar and Sherpa Lobsang. The expedition was successful even though it met with bad weather all along. Hanuman Tibba Peak, 19450 feet In 1974 Bharati Banerjee along with another climber Heather Larsen successfully climbed Bhunoti (18,000t), a peak in the Garhwal-Kumaun Himalaya Range. For more information on the Expedition, click here. Ms. Bharati Banerjee was also a member of the The Indo-Japanese Women’s Expedition in 1976. It was sponsored by the Japanese Alpine Club and the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, and had aimed to climb both Kamet (25,447 feet) and Abi Gamin  (24,130 feet). President Shri Pranabh Mukherjee was the President of the Governing Body of  Lady Irwin School . He resigned from the post on June 27, 2012  only before being sworn in as the President of India. MS. KAMALA SENGUPTA - PRINCIPAL (1946-1973 )

Ms. Kamala Sengupta Principal, Lady Irwin Higher Secondary School from 1946 to 1973. She also held the post of Field Advisor of the All India Council for Secondary Education on the recommendation of which the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) was established. She was one of the pioneers of the Parent Teachers Association Cooperation Movement and the Honorary General Secretary of Delhi Parent Teachers Association. LADY IRWIN SCHOOL - THE FOUNDER

The Founder of Lady Irwin School, Satish Ranjan Das, (born 1870- died 1928) He was the Law Member of the Executive Council of the Viceroy. The school was established in 1927. The school was named after Lady Dorothy Irwin,  wife of the then Viceroy of India.
