Miss Kamala Sengupta, the woman who singlehandedly brought the school up to the number 1 position. She was the principal from 1948-1973. That was the time when five out of ten students in the merit list in the CBSE board results used to be from Lady Irwin School. We had large numbers of LIS students in the distinction list of each subject too. One year 50% of all admissions or what they called seats in the medical field in Delhi went to girls from LIS.
